A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON PRECISION METROLOGY SYSTEMS FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

This paper presents a comparative study on precision metrology systems such as Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), 3-Dimensional Scanning (3DS) and Computed Tomography (CT) for polymer additive manufacturing. A special test sample was designed manufactured by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) AM systems. The parts were then measured three different the results compared in terms of measurement methods. Uncertainty analyses conducted based CMM measurements. benchmark highlighted difference between part characteristics FDM SLS, where represented higher surface roughness more deviation to nominal design. Furthermore, expanded uncertainties computed almost times SLS part. It also demonstrated that one major contributors uncertainty occurred because rougher Similar tendency deviations observable all including CMM, CT 3DS. Findings revealed need standardized inspection control parts.
